— The whole career
Graduation is one page. This one is a life. Sergeant First Class Kai M. Kealoha, National Guard, from a small Hawaiian airport at dawn at eighteen to a room of soldiers applauding at thirty eight. One link the whole time.
— What kept landing on it
His mother bought graduation in 2006 for the same forty dollars you would pay tomorrow. He served the way the Guard does, a weekend a month and a full life in between, called up for deployments overseas and for the storm at home. Everything under it was added later by Kai and his wife.
A field on a hot bright morning, his father lifting him clean off the ground while his mother and grandmother cried beside them in green leaf leis and two little cousins waved flags. By that night the page had fifty cards and a link his mother sent to everybody in Waianae.

A low concrete armory at the start of a drill weekend. His grandmother could not stop laughing while she straightened his collar, Leilani filmed on her phone, and two soldiers grinned from the truck.

Buses in a row, a rucksack on his back, and a rain so soft it felt like fog. Leilani pressed her forehead to his while his family stood under an umbrella in leis, waving little flags. The page kept this one family only, the way a mobilization always is.

A cinderblock armory hallway. Leilani held their newborn daughter in the crook of her arm and fixed the stripe on his sleeve while three soldiers clapped behind them.

A transport plane, a wide concrete apron in the afternoon sun, and his daughter in her pink coat running with her arms out. Leilani laughed with a hand on her heart and a fresh leaf lei over her arm.

The Guard is the one branch that gets called to its own neighborhood. After the storm he loaded cases of water into a truck in a school parking lot, Leilani beside him with their son on her hip and their daughter in her yellow boots, neighbors lined up in the rain behind them.

Twenty years, closed out on the same link his mother sent in 2006. He stood in three leis with Leilani beside him, their children in front, his parents behind, and his Tutu in her wheelchair holding his hand while rows of soldiers applauded.

Graduation is forty dollars and it stands on its own. If you ever want the rest, the forty you already paid comes straight off, so the whole career costs $60 more. One payment, no subscription, kept for life.
— The difference
After graduation the photos are on their phone. They claim the page, you approve it, and from then on the stripe and the homecoming go up the day they happen.
Every milestone brings the same people back to the same link. Twenty years of it in one place.
Family only by default, location optional. Nobody has to think about it, it is already right.
His Tutu and his grandfather are on the back of every card he has. One day his page will be on the back of somebody else's.
— Twenty per milestone
Every milestone on this page holds up to twenty photos, and every one of them becomes its own numbered card. These are three of his.
